Poem About Letting Go of Regrets
poem about self forgiveness
I wrote this poem as a turning point — a way to stop replaying old mistakes and finally forgive myself for the time I can’t get back.
At fifty-eight, I count the days, Twenty left, or so they say.
Time’s a gift, but I’ve thrown away, So much of it, on those who never stayed.
I loved too hard, gave all I could, To those who never understood, They took my heart, they drained me dry, While I watched the years go by.
Regret runs deep for those I chose, For empty promises and shallow shows, I see it now, with older eyes—How often I believed their lies.
And then the paths I didn’t take, The choices made, the small mistakes, That turned to mountains in my mind, They haunt me now, but I won’t rewind.
I won’t waste what’s left on hollow praise, On fleeting faces, on empty days, No longer giving what’s not returned, I’ve lived, I’ve loved, and I have learned.
These twenty years will be for me, For honest love, for clarity, For those who stand, who truly care, I’ll give my heart, I’ll be there.
I won’t regret what’s left behind, The weight of guilt I’ll leave unlined, With time I’ll choose, with heart I’ll give, The life I have, the life I’ll live.
No more regrets, no wasted time, I’ll cherish every hill I climb, So when the end comes softly near, I’ll leave in peace, with nothing to fear.
